Sketchbooks with Children
Another one of my joys in life is working with children. Having taught both elementary school and preschool, it is only natural for me to want to share my love of sketching with children. For the last few years I have enjoyed teaching Kindergartners the art of sketchbook journaling. My goal is first for them simply to enjoy the process of drawing. We spend time really looking at something, talk about it and then try to "capture" it on paper using pens and watercolor pencils. It is a joy to get to see things through their eyes and I am always amazed and impressed with the wonderful results.
It's a Party! I had a fun time doing a watercolor sketching lesson for a birthday party this past month. Amazing to see the girls' creativity, enthusiasm and wonderful end results. When I heard that the girls spent part of that same evening doing more sketches and that at least one wanted to get a sketchbook and, "keep it with me all the time," it just made my teacher's heart smile with joy.
